Bowel Surgery

There are lots of types of bowel surgery. Your bowel (intestine) is made up of your large and small bowels.  You might need to have surgery if your bowel has been affected by a condition, such as bowel cancer or diverticular disease, or you have inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Problems with the anal canal, such as haemorrhoids, fissure (a tear) or fistula also can require formal surgery. Quite often haemorrhoids can be treated just in the clinic by rubber band placement.

Bariatric Surgery

From 2024 bariatric surgery is now offered to Northland patients in the private sector. Obesity is complex and Sean and his Northland Health & Weight team are specialised health professionals here to help people achieve their best possible health. Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment to achieve substantial and sustained weight loss. Weight loss outcomes vary from person to person, but on average, bariatric surgery results in 20-35% total body weight and results in substantial health improvement. Lifestyle change before and after surgery are crucial for long term success and this is a large focus of the bariatric surgery programme. Sean and his team also offer non-surgical weight loss options.
